Infrared Heaters

I got an email Tuesday asking, “Are infrared heaters efficient” ? The short answer is yes, infrared heaters are efficient, but keep in mind they are only efficient as a secondary heating source. The person who asked that question was referring to the infrared heating units that are designed to use in your home. Typically people use these efficient heaters in a living room or bedroom that may have issues “spreading” heat around the room. Infrared heaters are efficient because the take the available heat already in the air of your room and circulate it as the heat the air.

Most Efficient Infrared Heaters

I’ve found through my own research online and through owning a couple different infrared heaters that the most efficient heaters are the ones that use quartz or ceramic heating elements. This technology seems to allow the heater to function at a high rate compared to electricity usage. Below is a link to some of the Top infrared heaters on the market today. One of the places I’ve found an infrared heater to be efficient is in the Bathroom.  I have electric baseboard heat in my home, and in the bathroom I can leave the heat much lower and let the Infrared heater heat that space.  The bathroom is small and I don’t have a very big heating unit in there.  There infrared heater works great in the bathroom.  We also use one in the living room mainly because the heater also filters the air in the room as it circulates and warms it.  I feel this is another element that makes an infrared heating unit more efficient.  We don’t use any other air filtration system, just the infrared heater.
